What is Cyber crime?
Cybercrime is defined as a crime in which a computer is the object of the crime (hacking, phishing, spamming) or is used as a tool to commit an offence.
Cybercrime encompasses a wide range of activities, but these can generally be broken into two categories:
Crimes that target computer networks or devices.
These types of crimes include viruses and denial-of-service attacks.
Crimes that use computer networks to advance other criminal activities.
These types of crimes include cyberstalking, phishing and fraud or identity
theft.
What's happening in Cyber space?
A recent survey shows that more than 88% of respondents in the U.S,China,Russia,and India believe that cyberspace threats are significant.
While many respondents feel comfortable with online banking and shopping,more than 69% are not comfortable with sharing identity and personal data online.
This is a valid concern!!!
The latest Internet Crime Report by the Internet Crime Complaint Center shows an increase in cyber crimes, as thieves seek out personal data and other valuable information for their own advantage.

It helps in securing data from threats such as data theft or misuse, also safeguards your system from viruses.

seemingly from a reputable credit card company or financial institution,that requests account information.

Do not open messages or attachments from unknown sources Use spam filters to prevent unwanted and dangerous email.
Spyware
The two important things to know about spyware programs are that
1)they can download themselves onto your computer without your
permission when you visit an unsafe website and
2)they can take control of your computer.
Solution
Keep your computer up to date—especially your operating system, web browsers, and antispyware protection.
Malware
The word malware comes from term MALicious softWARE.
MALWARE is any software that infects and damages your system without your knowledge or permission.

Activate Network threat protection, Firewall, Antivirus.

Viruses and worms
A virus is a program that is loaded into your system and runs against your wishes.

Solution:
Install a security suit that protects from viruses and worms.
Hackers
A hackers breaks into your computer's,usually by gaining access to administrative controls.

How to Prevent Hacking:
Effective security controls including strong passwords and the use of firewall helps.
Password protection
Choose strong passwords that are not easy to guess. Avoid your address, pet’s name, or a child’s name.
Think of creating a password by using the first letter of each word of a favorite saying.
Substituting capital letters and/or numbers for some of those letters will strengthen the passwords even further.
